Azure Information Protection – A new version of the Unified Labelling Client has been released - cubesys

By know, you may already know Azure Information Protection (AIP), the document right management services and labelling solution delivered by Azure.

You may also be aware that 2 different version are currently co-existing: Azure Information Protection client and Azure Information Protection Unified Labelling client.

This post is about the release of a new version of the later one – which is by the way the recommended client to deploy and use.

This new version (2.6.111.0) is available for download as a standalone client (.exe file) and a MSI package if you deploy software using software deployment solution like SCCM. You can download it there https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53018 (be careful to download the unified labelling client)

As always, in addition of some bug fixes, new or improved features are delivered:

• The AIP scanner is now GA, The scanner is used to inspect and label documents in on-premises data stores, like file shares.
• Administrators can now stop and restart a scan if changes were made to the default label

To stop a scan, logon to your Azure portal (https://portal.azure.com/) and go to your Azure Information Protection to access the Profiles blade available below the Scanner section

• The Set-AIPFileLabel cmdlet has been updated to enable removal of protection for PST, RAR, 7Zip and MSG files.
• Set different visual marking depending of the client application (Word, Excel or PowerPoint). By default, visual marking is applied across all applications, With this new version you can apply a different marking based on the application

To apply a different marking depending of the application, you need to define as many as label as required (one per application) and then use the variable in your text string by setting the pattern as below

${If.App.<application type>}<your visual markings text> ${If.End}

example: ${If.App.WXO}This content is confidential. ${If.End}${If.App.PowerPoint}This presentation is confidential. ${If.End} apply the marking ‘This content is confidential’ to all application, except PowerPoint which will have the marking ‘This presentation is confidential’
